Privacy Policy
Last updated November 7, 2026
In short: Turfora has no accounts, no ads and no tracking across apps, and we never sell data. Your scans, cases and photos are saved on your iPhone. When you scan, your lawn photos and answers are sent through our server to Anthropic’s Claude AI to diagnose the problem — only after you agree, and nothing is kept on our server. Anonymous usage statistics, crash reports and purchase checks are the only other data that leaves your phone.
1. Who we are
Turfora is an iPhone app made by Narek Sumbatyan, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question, write to supportturfora@gmail.com.
2. Data that stays on your iPhone
These are stored only on your device:
- your settings: climate, grass type, units and your AI analysis choice;
- your lawn photos (resized by the app), your answers to the scan questions, diagnoses, treatment cases, checklists and check-ins.
We have no server that stores this data and we can’t see it. Deleting the app deletes it from your iPhone. It isn’t synced between devices, but it may be included in your iPhone backups (iCloud or computer), depending on your Apple account settings.
3. AI lawn analysis
Turfora diagnoses your lawn with Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. Before your first scan the app asks for your permission and explains what is sent. Nothing is sent until you agree.
What is sent, and when
Only when you scan your lawn or do a check-in, the app sends:
- your lawn photos — 2 for a scan (a wide shot and a close-up); 4 for a check-in (your 2 new photos plus the 2 from day 0 to compare). Photos are resized to 1280 pixels and saved again by the app, without location (GPS) data;
- your answers: climate, grass type and the 3 quick questions (when the problem appeared, how you water, how much sun the spot gets);
- the current month and your unit system (feet or meters), so the advice fits the season and your units;
- a random install ID created by the app, used only to apply the daily fair-use limit. It isn’t linked to your name, Apple ID or advertising ID.
Never sent: your name, email, contacts, location, Apple ID or any other photos. Please photograph your lawn, not people.
Who receives it
- Our server (run on Cloudflare) passes the request to Anthropic and returns the answer to your phone. It does not store your photos, answers or diagnoses. It keeps only a daily counter for each random install ID (how many scans today), which is deleted automatically after 2 days, and technical logs without photos or answers (for example, the size of each AI request).
- Anthropic processes the request as our service provider, only to produce your diagnosis. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms, it does not use this data to train its models and automatically deletes it within 30 days, unless it must keep it longer to enforce its usage policy or to comply with the law. See Anthropic’s privacy policy.
The diagnosis comes back to your phone and is saved there with your photos.
Your choice
You can turn AI analysis off at any time in the app: Settings → AI analysis. With it off, nothing is sent and scanning is paused. Your saved history stays on your phone.
4. Anonymous usage statistics
We send anonymous events to Mixpanel, stored on servers in the European Union, to learn which features help and where people get stuck. Examples: onboarding completed, scan finished (the problem category, the AI’s confidence and the health score), treatment started, check-in result, paywall shown, setting changed. Events may include your climate and grass type choices, units, App Store country and currency.
Mixpanel also receives general technical details (device model, iOS version, app version, language) and uses the IP address to estimate country and city without storing the IP address. Events are linked to a random identifier created by the app — not to your name, email, Apple ID or advertising ID. Photos and the AI’s texts are never sent to Mixpanel.
5. Crash reports
When the app crashes or hits an error, a report is sent to Sentry, stored in the European Union. It contains the technical error, app version, device model and iOS version. IP address storage is turned off. No photos, personal information or diagnoses.
6. Purchases
Turfora Premium is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your name, email or card details. RevenueCat checks whether you have Premium and restores purchases. It receives from Apple the product, dates, price, currency and country, together with an anonymous app user ID. See RevenueCat’s and Apple’s privacy policies.
7. Camera, photos and notifications
- Camera — used only while you take lawn photos in a scan or check-in.
- Photos — if you choose a photo from your library, Turfora receives only that photo.
- Notifications — treatment and check-in reminders are local notifications created on your iPhone; no server is involved. Turn them off in the app or in iOS Settings.
8. What we don’t do
- No accounts or logins.
- No ads and no advertising ID.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling or renting of data.
- No access to your location, contacts or microphone.
9. Service providers
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | AI lawn analysis (Claude) | United States |
| Cloudflare | Our AI server and this website | Worldwide |
| Apple | App Store and payments | Worldwide |
| RevenueCat | Purchase checks and restores | United States |
| Mixpanel | Anonymous usage statistics | European Union |
| Sentry | Crash reports | European Union |
Each provider processes data only to deliver its service to us. Where data is sent to the United States, it is protected by the providers’ standard contractual safeguards. Statistics and crash reports are kept only while they help us improve the app and are then deleted under each provider’s retention settings.
10. This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics, third-party fonts or scripts. Cloudflare processes standard request data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site.
11. Children
Turfora is made for adults and isn’t directed at children under 13. Lawn treatments and chemicals should be handled by adults.
12. Your choices and rights
Because our statistics and crash reports are anonymous, we usually can’t link them to you. You can still ask us questions, or ask us to delete data tied to your device’s random identifiers, by writing to supportturfora@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California), you may have the right to access or delete your data, to object to processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. We reply within 30 days.
13. Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. Important changes will also be mentioned in the app’s update notes.
